Giving up the Ghost

Stand Exhibition #6

Thursday, January 7 from 6 p.m. to midnight

The Owl’s Head

479-74th Street

Brooklyn, NY 11209

A Pop-Up Art Exhibit and Sale coinciding with the exhibit “Re-animator” at Bay Ridge Arts Space

About the exhibit…

A search for what the world ought to be

The life principle or vital spark, the seat of intelligence, which gives way to our mind’s apparitions and haunts are how we may define the soul. The soul of an artist is often restless and searching and the exploration is a never-ending journey to mine more questions and shun definitive answers for fear it will lead to creation’s death.

We find those questions through our perceptions of our physical and subconscious worlds that partner to embody the spirits that inform us. We mingle with these “ghosts” as we navigate life’s terrain and we share them through the art we bring into being.

Tis the spirited season to toast the ghosts of the past, present and future walking amongst us with spirits of the vine for Stand’s 6th exhibit at The Owl’s Head wine bar. Please join us for a festive evening of Bay Ridge arts events as we pair with Bay Ridge Arts Space for a night of visual and performing arts that play on the themes of ghosts and revival.

Participating artists: Audrey Anastasi, Fiona Buchanan, Danielle Bullock, Jean Calderone, Maria Calderone, Maya Ines Carino, Gina Colazzo, Carl Contrera, Alicia Degener, Cecilia Whittaker-Doe, Cheres Espinosa, Marie Laure Fino, Joanie Flickinger, Christopher Froelich, Michele Nordi Hern, Grant Huang, Ellen Coleman-Izzo, Heidi Lanino, Christopher Moss, Mitch Patrick, Catherine Petrosino, Elissa Swanger, Jacqueline Wadsworth, Peter Wadsworth

Stand’s commitment to artists and community brings unique art experiences to the public. Stand is artist-run and artist-funded. A variety of works will be on view and available for purchase. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the artists.

Like all Stand exhibitions, the venue plays an integral role to the art. From butcher and bar, to greenhouse, sewing studio and historic carriage house, local public spaces have inspired the series’ artists and housed their work. We would like to thank John Avelluto of The Owl’s Head wine bar for opening up his venue for Stand #6

Sheltered Past

Stand Exhibition #5

You are invited to attend Sheltered Past: A Pop-Up Art Exhibit and Sale

taking place during the August 7th, 2015 Bay Ridge Summer Stroll

2 Bay Ridge Place, Brooklyn, NY 11209

Exhibit to be held behind home in carriage house at 218 Bay Ridge Avenue

The Stand Project is sponsoring a group exhibition at a historic carriage house in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and we are excited to be participating as an off-shoot of the Bay Ridge Summer Stroll Series.

Stand’s commitment to artists and community brings unique art experiences to the public. Stand is artist-run and artist-funded.

This exhibit entitled Sheltered Past will feature the work of over twenty artists connected to the Bay Ridge/Brooklyn community. Set in a historic home, this event brings together a diverse group of
artists to initiate dynamic dialogue about studio practices and the importance of community involvement and support. A variety of works will be on view and available for purchase. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the artists.

Set in a historic carriage house in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Sheltered Past calls artists to share stories and experiences from the past – imagined or real, belonging to others or to themselves – in a setting that evokes what has come before but still lingers.

Like all STAND exhibitions, the venue plays an integral role to the art. From butcher and bar, to greenhouse and sewing studio, local public spaces have inspired the series’ artists and housed their work. Sheltered Past now invites artists and viewers to a more private space, where cobblestone and carriage house once signaled home, and where memories, hidden in time or under layers of conscience, are mined for the treasures they might yield.

Participating artists: Audrey Anastasi, Joseph Anastasi, John Avelutto, Jeannine Bardo,
Heidi Bilezikan, Caitlin Clifford, Kara Daving, Alicia Degener, Cecilia Whittaker-Doe, Nicole Donnelly, Joanie Flickinger, Sara Galkin, Isabelle Garbani, Salim Hasbini, Neddi Heller, Azita Houshiar, Ellen Coleman-Izzo, Deirdre Laughton, Toby Needler, Julie Paveglio, Cheryl Parry, Elena Soterakis, Ethan Wadsworth, Jacque Wadsworth, Thomas Watkiss.
